This policy explains how to delete your account and how long different types of data are kept. It is read together with the Privacy Policy (§10 and the retention appendix) and the Terms of Service (§6.6). The retention periods below reflect what the platform actually does. Independent legal review recommended before public launch.
1. How to delete your account
- In-app (available now): go to Settings → Account → Delete account. You will be shown exactly
what is removed and what is kept, and asked to type DELETE to confirm. Your profile is hidden from Discover straight away, and the account is permanently deleted 14 days later — you can cancel at any point during those 14 days from the same screen.
- By request: email support@pipchat.in from, or referencing, your account and ask us to delete
it. We will verify the request is genuinely yours before acting.
Deletion cannot be started while you have a date that has not finished, a bond still held, an open date post carrying a bond, or an open report involving your account. The app tells you which of these applies. (Internal note, remove before publication: a public, signed-out deletion-request URL is still required by Google Play in addition to the in-app flow above — publish one before launch.)
You can also request a copy of your data, or correction of it, at the same address, subject to identity verification and Applicable Law.
2. What happens when you delete
- Your profile stops being visible and discoverable to other users.
- Date Credits: any remaining credit balance can be used or discussed with support during a short
grace period; after that period, remaining credits are forfeited on deletion. Date Credits have no cash value and are not refundable as money (see the Payment Terms).
- Held bonds: open bonds are resolved under the Refund & Deposit Policy before the account is fully
closed.
- Some data is retained after deletion where we are required or permitted to keep it (see §4).
3. Standard retention periods (while your account is active and after deletion)
| Data | Retention | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Check-in audit records | 90 days | Deleted outright |
| Chat / date messages | 90 days | Message text is anonymised (cleared); the thread row is kept for structure and moderation, not hard-deleted |
| Drift monitoring sessions | 90 days | Purged |
| SOS location trails | 90 days (trail itself captured for 24h at SOS) | Purged |
| Stale profile-view records | 90 days since last view | Aged out |
| Profile & account data | Life of the account | Removed or de-identified on deletion, subject to §4 |
| Financial / purchase records | As required by law (e.g. tax/accounting) | Retained for the legally required period |
| Safety, moderation & report records | As needed for the purpose | May be retained to enforce bans, resolve disputes, and meet legal duties |
Messages are intentionally not hard-deleted because moderation, reports, and safety investigations may depend on them; anonymisation removes the content while preserving the minimum needed for integrity.
4. When we keep data after deletion
We may retain specific information after account deletion where reasonably necessary to:
- comply with a legal obligation (tax, accounting, financial records, law-enforcement preservation);
- support an ongoing investigation or a child-safety matter (deletion does not erase evidence of
CSAE — see the Child Safety & CSAM Policy);
- enforce a ban and prevent a banned user from returning;
- establish, exercise, or defend legal claims, or resolve a dispute or chargeback;
- honour a legal hold.
Retained data is limited to what is necessary for the specific purpose and is deleted or de-identified when that purpose ends.
5. Backups and logs
Deleted or anonymised data may persist for a limited time in encrypted backups and operational logs before those are rotated out on their normal cycle. We do not restore deleted content from backups except where required for disaster recovery or a legal obligation.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the GDPR/UK GDPR, or other laws), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your data, and to complain to a regulator. Exercise these at support@pipchat.in. See the Privacy Policy for the full description of your rights and how we respond.
7. Changes
We may update this policy as our retention practices and legal obligations evolve; the periods above will be kept consistent with what the platform actually does.
